Job Overview: Lab Technician

A Lab Technician supports scientific research and testing by performing laboratory procedures, preparing samples, and maintaining equipment. Working in various settings such as medical labs, research facilities, or industrial labs, Lab Technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of experiments and tests.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sample Preparation: Collect, label, and prepare biological, chemical, or environmental samples for analysis. Follow standardized procedures to ensure the integrity and accuracy of samples.

  2. Laboratory Testing: Conduct routine laboratory tests and experiments, including chemical analyses, microscopic examinations, and biological assays. Use specialized equipment and instruments to obtain data and results.

  3. Data Recording & Analysis: Accurately record and document test results, observations, and experimental data. Assist in analyzing data and generating reports to support research findings or medical diagnoses.

  4. Equipment Maintenance: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, spectrometers, and centrifuges. Ensure that all instruments are in proper working condition and perform regular maintenance as required.

  5. Quality Control: Follow strict quality control protocols to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results. Perform quality checks on samples, reagents, and equipment to minimize errors and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  6. Inventory Management: Manage laboratory supplies, including chemicals, reagents, and disposable items. Order new supplies as needed, and ensure that inventory levels are sufficient to support ongoing laboratory operations.

  7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment. Handle hazardous materials, chemicals, and biological samples with care, and ensure proper disposal of waste.

  8. Collaboration: Work closely with scientists, researchers, and other lab personnel to support ongoing projects. Assist in the development of new procedures and contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment operation
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations in a lab setting
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Good communication skills for collaborating with team members

  • Associate degree or certificate in Laboratory Technology, Biological Sciences, or a related field
